The program is designed to be completed in two years (with a summer off in between). Students often use the summer between junior and senior year to gain experience through internships or employment in the local industry.
When are classes held?

While some lower division pre-requisites may be completed remotely, the upper division portion of this program must be completed at MiraCosta College. We offer extensive hands-on labs on our campus, as well as collaborative lecture courses that require students to interact in person.
What are the General Education requirements?
Students are required to complete either the CSU GE or the IGETC general education pattern (referred to as Plan B and Plan C at MiraCosta College). Please, speak with a counselor at your institution to check which courses are required for either pattern. Some community colleges have an option for a local GE course sequence that does not meet this requirement.

In the biotechnology department, we offer fully online, asynchronous classes for some of the program pre-requisites, including BTEC 107, BTEC 120, BTEC 180, BTEC 210, and BTEC 211. These classes can be completed from outside of the local area.
